Get PDF
The present essay develops a proposal of educational intervention based on the shared psychological and methodological perspective from the Learning Communities. The aim is to propose a new pedagogical paradigm of an integrating nature. As well as to contribute to the improvement of the afflicted Spanish educational panorama, marked by absenteeism and failure, from a clear psychopedagogical profile in the stage of Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO), for educators as learners. It shows how the action has been structured in two clearly defined phases. The first phase of the program aims to train and educate educators in the different practices and attitudes promoted by the psychopedagogical perspective defended by the Learning Communities through its methodology taken by dialogical and cooperative learning together with the interactive groups. Therefore, this phase will only be aimed at educating the educator, as well as in his technical preparation for the execution of the second phase of the program proposal. The second base of the program, anger directed to the intervention with the students in the classrooms. For the execution of this second phase, both the actions of the trainers of the program and with the school teachers are counted, to implement the psycho-pedagogical model based on Learning Communities. This program aims to improve the environment and interactions within the school context, while giving way to more energetic, satisfactory and effective learning dynamic, in the same way as establishing a bidirectional model in favor of prosocial and preventive behaviors. conflicts in the students.Psicologí

New analysis and extensions of split-spectrum processing algorithms

[EN] In this paper we compare the performances of different variants of split-spectrum algorithms and propose some new extensions based on the use of variable bandwidth filters equally spaced in frequency and energy gain equalized. Signal-to-Noise Ratio Gain and Flaw-to-Clutter Ratio Gain factors were selected as the figures of merit to make the comparisons among the different methods. We considered simulated ultrasonic signals using both stationary and non-stationary models for the grain noise, and real scans obtained in laboratory from low dispersive (aluminum) and high dispersive (cement) materials. Frequency Multiplication (FM) recombination method is revealed as the best option when combined with the new extensions. This work has been supported by the Ministerio de Fomento (Spain) and the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovacion (Spain), and FEDER funds under the projects T39/2006, TEC2008-06728 and TEC2008-02975Rodríguez, A.; Miralles Ricós, R.; Bosch Roig, I.; Vergara Domínguez, L. The integrative future of taxonomy

    Get PDF

Abstract

Background

Taxonomy is the biological discipline that identifies, describes, classifies and names extant and extinct species and other taxa. Nowadays, species taxonomy is confronted with the challenge to fully incorporate new theory, methods and data from disciplines that study the origin, limits and evolution of species.

Results

Integrative taxonomy has been proposed as a framework to bring together these conceptual and methodological developments. Here we review perspectives for an integrative taxonomy that directly bear on what species are, how they can be discovered, and how much diversity is on Earth.

Conclusions

We conclude that taxonomy needs to be pluralistic to improve species discovery and description, and to develop novel protocols to produce the much-needed inventory of life in a reasonable time. To cope with the large number of candidate species revealed by molecular studies of eukaryotes, we propose a classification scheme for those units that will facilitate the subsequent assembly of data sets for the formal description of new species under the Linnaean system, and will ultimately integrate the activities of taxonomists and molecular biologists.</p

    Get PDF
Experiencing positive emotions promotes open and flexible thinking and strengthens us against adversity. In the field of positive psychology different strategies that boost the appearance of positive emotions have been developed. One of these interventions is to imagine the Best Possible Self, a positive future thinking technique that consists in visualizing a future where everything has gone the best possible way. The goal of the present study is to analyze the efficacy of this intervention increasing the appearance of positive emotions and optimism, using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to maximize their effects. This is a one session preliminary experimental study, with a sample of 12 individuals (M=23.4 years) recruited from the general population. In order to analyze the results, measures of affect (PANAS) and future expectancies (SPT) were administered before and after each manipulation. Regarding affect, results show a significant increase in positive affect after the session. On the contrary, in the measures of future expectancies, results show a non-significant decrease in negative future expectancies at the end of the session

E-learning can be defined as learning facilitated and supported through the use of ICTs. ICTs can increase students’ motivation, accelerate the knowledge process and facilitate the information access. The aim of this paper is to analyze the acceptability of three tools presented in a workshop carried out during six weeks, with university teachers (N = 22), taking into account their opinion about the usefulness of the workshop. Two researchers/teachers specializing in the field of educational technologies taught the three tools presented. Before the workshop, we administered a technology profile questionnaire; after it, we asked the teachers to fill in a questionnaire about the workshop and the tools used. We then carried out a non-parametric Friedman test to compare the differences found in the evaluation of the tools. The results show that the acceptability of the technologies and the methodology used during the workshop was high: teachers’ assessment and opinion has been favorable for both pedagogy and teaching methodology, which facilitated the understanding of the tools and the innovative nature of the contents of the workshop. The participants also evaluated the technologies as appropriate and easy to use. We also mention the limitations of the study and future challenges. This study has been funded in part by Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (PSI2010- 17563), PROMETEO/2013/003 Fase II, ISIC/2012/012 Network of Excellence (Generalitat Valenciana, Conselleria de Educación), the CIBERobn (CB/06/03), and the Teaching to Teach with Technology Multilateral European Project (505169 -LLP -1-2009- 1-IT- KA3 -KA3MP). A Public Fabric Database for Defect Detection Methods and Results

[EN] The use of image processing for the detection and classification of defects has been a reality for some time in science and industry. New methods are continually being presented to improve every aspect of this process. However, these new approaches are applied to a small, private collection of images, which makes a real comparative study of these methods very difficult. The objective of this paper was to compile a public annotated benchmark, that is, an extensive set of images with and without defects, and make these public, to enable the direct comparison of detection and classification methods. Moreover, different methods are reviewed and one of these is applied to the set of images; the results of which are also presented in this paper. The authors thank for the financial support provided by IVACE (Institut Valencia de Competitivitat Empresarial, Spain) and FEDER (Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional, Europe), throughout the projects: AUTOVIMOTION and INTELITEX.Silvestre-Blanes, J.; Albero Albero, T.; Miralles, I.; Pérez-Llorens, R.; Moreno, J. Get PDF
[Abstract] Background/Aim. Professional reasoning in occupational therapy is the process used by practitioners to plan, direct, perform, and reflect on client care. The professional’s ability to manage the process of the intervention is structured around it, thereby influencing the effectiveness of the work carried out. The objectives of this research were to identify and describe (a) the historical development of this area of research from 1982 to 2017 and (b) the nature and volume of the scientific literature on professional reasoning in occupational therapy and the evidence that exists today. Methods. A scoping review method was used to carry out an historical mapping of research on professional reasoning and to summarise the lines of research explored to date. The review was conducted in five stages following the PRISMA guidelines. After applying the selection criteria, the search identified 303 references. Results. The results are presented under three headings: (a) nature and volume of publications on professional reasoning in occupational therapy according to number and year of publications, journal, country, author, and line of research; (b) historical trends in the scientific literature on professional reasoning in occupational therapy since 1982; and (c) methodological aspects of the research. Each of them is discussed through statistical analysis. Conclusions. The research about professional reasoning in occupational therapy is a field of empirical nature, in which qualitative studies predominate. Principal lines of research are focused on specific fields of practice, undergraduates, and theoretical aspects of professional reasoning. There were identified three historical phases with common features in terms of objectives and research methods

Improved visualization of large temporal series for the evaluation of good environmental status

[EN] Passive acoustic monitoring of underwater sounds is an emerging discipline that can be used to guarantee that anthropogenic noise meets acceptable limits, to detect the presence of cetacean species, and to ensure sustainable exploitation of our oceans and seas. In this scenario, graphical representation techniques play a key role in helping to reveal seasonal structures of human made noises. Nevertheless, for very long temporal series, it might be challenging to find a graphic visualization technique that allows representing a time range that is long enough to capture these seasonal events, while at the same time preserving short isolated events. We propose a framework for the creation of such visualization techniques and analyze the different stages involved: data reduction, color encoding, and signal processing on graphs. All of this is applied to data from deployments in two marine protected areas in order to provide an acoustic panorama and identify seasonal events. This work was supported partially by the Fundacion Biodiversidad (various Spanish government ministries involved in nature conservation) and partially by the European Commission -DG ENV (grant agreement 11.0661/2016/748066/SUB/ENV.C2). We would like to thank all of the researchers from FGUA (UAH) and the Oceanografic (Valencia) who participated in the deployment and recovery of the acoustic recording devices. We also thank the authorities in charge of the Cabrera Archipelago Maritime-Terrestrial National Park as well as the Cabo de San Antonio Natural Marine Reserve for providing the corresponding permits to carry out the scientific work.Miralles Ricós, R.; Lara Martínez, G.; Gosálbez Castillo, J.; Bosch Roig, I.; León Fernández, A.
